The diploma thesis entitled Critical reflection of selected works of Karin Lednická and Jakuba Katalpa in the Czech media deals with the topic of contemporary Czech literature returning to the history of the 20th century. Specifically, it analyzes the critical response to Karin Lednická's novel chronicles Šikmý kostel I-II (Leaning Church I-II) and Jakub Katalpa's novels Němci (Germans) and Zuzanin dech (Zuzana's Breath). The theoretical chapters deal with the concepts of criticism and reflection, the introduction of literary periodicals and selected female authors, the characteristics of the chosen literary phenomenon or the definition of the interview genre. In the practical part, critical reflections of the works Šikmý kostel I-II (Leaning Church I-II), Němci (Germans) and Zuzanin dech (Zuzana's Breath) published in literary periodicals, daily press, online or as radio contributions are analysed. Characters of Space in the Trilogy Trýznivé město by Daniela Hodrová
Macháčková, Klára ; Bílek, Petr (advisor) ; Wiendl, Jan (referee)
This bachelor thesis aims to interpret the trilogy Trýznivé město (subsuming parts called Podobojí, Kukly and Théta) by the Czech novelist and literary scholar Daniela Hodrová. A complex structure of the novel is in the analysis "opened" through the categories of space and characters; an axis of the thesis is the idea that in the poetics of D. Hodrová, some places can acquire certain features of living creatures (such as memory, free will, temper etc.) and vice versa, that some characters can coalesce with the space they inhabit. In spite of a firm mutual connection between the two categories, they will be discussed separately, in the following order: after having defined the background (using mainly theoretical works of D. Hodrová as secondary sources), firstly, we will focus on the localization of particular topoi (i.e. "literary loaded" places, e.g. the mountain, the pass, the abyss etc.) and on the description of their connotations in terms of the general sense of the trilogy; the attention will be also given to the non-topographical places (i.e. objects or parts of the body). Then, we will consider the issue of characters, primarily their ambivalent status between personalities, though fictional, and mere literary constructs performing certain functions, and also their transformations...
Body as Key Topic in the Prose of Marek Sindelka
Bydžovská, Marie ; Píšová, Ina (advisor) ; Brožová, Věra (referee)
The bachelor's thesis deals with the literary work of the Czech contemporary author Marek Šindelka, specifically with his key prose works Chyba, Zůstaňte s námi, Mapa Anny and Únava materiálu. The analysis of these titles, based mainly on the literary-theoretical approaches of Daniela Hodrová, Blanka Činátlová and linguists George Lakoff and Mark Johnson, focuses on the way in which their central theme of body and physicality manifests itself at various levels of literary work. The aim of the bachelor's thesis is to verify with the appropriate literary tools whether the body and physicality are only a key topic connecting most of Šindelka's texts or whether it enters the deeper levels of the text, eg. as its compositional principle or as - the only valid - way of seeing the world. KEYWORDS Marek Šindelka, contemporary Czech literature, prose, body and physicality, theme, composition, metaphor
